How to Tell If Someone That is Bi-polar is Depressed

Bi-polar disorder is tricky as is, but add the depression part to the mix and it could get a lot more trickier. Here is how you can tell when a bi-polar person is in the depression state.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Take notice to the person's normal mood. Is the person you know with bi-polar disorder not acting like his or herself?

  2. Step 2

    Here are the signs on depression;

    Sad, anxious or empty mood.
    Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism, guilt. worthlessness or helplessness.
    Loss of interest in things that they love.
    Loss of interest in sex.
    Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or being slowed down.
    Difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions.
    Restless or irritable.
    Loss of appetite or weight, or weight gain.
    Sleep problems.
    Unexplainable pains throughout their body.
    Thoughts of death or suicide or suicide attempts.

  3. Step 3

    If the person if you know with bi-polar disorder is showing most to all of these symptoms, they are most likely in the depression state of their disorder. Ask the person you know if they need any kind of help.

  4. Step 4

    Take the depression state very seriously. If the person you know is talking about suicide or wanting to let go, urge them to call their doctor. Or even offer to call their doctor for them.

  • Depression is a serious illness, with or without bi-polar disorder, that should be treated very carefully. Call a health care professional if needed.
