How to Make a Mocha Au Lait

As the weather gets chillier one thing you have to look forward to is curling up with a big steaming mug while watching the snow fall. If you're looking for coffee with a twist or a dressier cocoa, why not whip up a mocha au lait? Simple, quick, and delicious, these treats also provide you with calcium, a bit of caffeine (for those 4pm lows) and a lot of indulgence!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 bar dark chocolate
  • 2 mugs
  • Whipped cream and marshmallows (optional)
  • Peppermint flavoring (optional)

Step1
Chop up the bar of chocolate into rough chunks with a big knife. Boil a saucepan of water and place a glass bowl over it. Put the chocolate in the bowl and mix it as it melts.
Step2
Heat one cup of milk in a saucepan on low. Watch the milk carefully to make sure that it doesn't burn or curdle; it should just reach a high enough temperature to give off steam.
Step3
Brew one cup of good coffee. If you prefer a stronger coffee taste, brew more coffee (you'll simply use less milk later).
Step4
Pour two to three tablespoons of chocolate onto the bottom of each mug. Add the milk until the mugs are half full. Stir with a spoon until you have made the mixture into hot cocoa. Add coffee until the mugs are full.
Step5
Add peppermint, marshmallows, and whipped cream to taste. Enjoy!
