Finding a bra as a plus size woman no matter what your cup size!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Are you one of the thousands of plus size women who are smaller breasted? Want to end the bra shopping nightmare? Why do we even wear bras anyway? By the end of this article, you will know why, you will know how to measure and wear the right bra and you will have some ideas on where shop for the right bra for you!

  2. Step 2

    Why wear a bra?
They look pretty and today for the plus size woman there are so many more choices out there for us, yet there are many of us that never seem to fall in the 'standard' rule of measurements, right? Plus the right one can help you feel:

Protected and supported. We need support and protection during our daily activities like walking or climbing stairs which can put stress on breast tissue; Some sports like running, softball, or other high energy sports can even make our breasts even hurt.

Less exposed. Light or tight shirts can be to revealing and a bra can help cover up your breasts and nipples underneath.

Shaped. Let's face it, everyone wants a nice silhouette, and a bra can help enhance your body shape. See link below for how to measure for the right size bra.

  3. Step 3

You may already know that bra sizes are made up of two parts, a number followed by a letter (or letters. Having someone help you with this is always the easiest and more accurate method. See below in the Tips section for a free online measuring tape and a link to a contest to enter to win 5 bras by playtex!

Chest size: This is the length of the bottom edge of the bra, usually an elastic band. The person fitting you will run a measuring tape across your chest right below your breasts and around your back. It will be a number like 32, 34, 36, etc.

Cup size: This is the part of the bra that actually holds (or “cups”) your breasts and will be something like AA, A, B, C, D etc. It’s determined by running the measuring tape across the middle of your breasts and around your back.

  4. Step 4

I have found that the internet has opened up a whole world of choices for me. Shopping for clothing and lingerie is so much easier online and it saves enough gas money that I can buy an extra when I find an item that really works for me!

Here are some sites that have proven successful for me (just copy and paste into a new browser window and you're ready to start shopping!):

on 12/26/2007 Wow! I've been watching Timm Gunn on Bravo and thought it would be so cool to have someone come in and show me how to buy a bra. Way cool and without the embarassment of the nation seeing my underwear drawer. Any tips for buying cool underwear? No thongs and no granny pants. LOL
