Tired of buying those expensive cat toys that are chased once and then forgotten behind the furniture? Or perhaps your wild kitty tears them up in one day as mine does. Well last night I discovered a new "cat toy" that my furry pals just love, best of all they can't break it and if they lose it, its super cheap to replace!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A pack of plastic snap together easter eggs, in assorted colors.
  • A bag of crunchy cat treats
  1. Step 1

Using one plastic egg per cat at a time, pop open one of the colored eggs and place approximately 5 to 6 crunchy cat treats in side.

  2. Step 2

Close the plastic egg back up, and shake it a bit to get kitty interested.
Once you have your feline friends attention roll the egg across the floor away from him/her. Because of the odd shape of the egg it will roll in what appears to be a strange fashion to your cat, making it seem even more interesting.

  3. Step 3

Now every time kitty bats the egg around with his/her paw the contents of the egg will rattle making it a favorite play toy in no time. If your cat manages to get the egg apart there is no tiny parts or squealing things inside to harm your cat, just good old kitty treats. Chances are your egg will still be intact and you can just refill it and give it back again. So it is very easy on the wallet, especially if you got between 6 and 12 eggs in your pack.

  4. Step 4

Assuming you accidentally break kitty's new toy by stepping on it, just toss it and fix him up a new one. After a little whiles play you can even pop the egg open yourself and let kitty have the treats inside as a reward for a good workout. This is especially helpful for cats with weight issues as we all know how hard it is to get them to play and exercise, by forking over the goodies after each session you are conditioning the cat to want to play with the egg, even if it is just for the candy inside.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the normal size plastic eggs, the really big ones do not roll well, and therefore are not of much interest to kitty.
  • If treats are out of your budget or you do not feel that your cat should eat them, a few pieces of their normal crunchy cat food will work just as well, however kitty may not see it as much of a reward after a few sessions.
  • Never put anything harmful inside the egg, that could potentially poison or choke your cat.

on 11/23/2008 I love it and sure our cats will too! We have five that love to bat super balls around. I never thought about the easter eggs. They hide the superballs so I imagine the easter eggs will be a little harder to hide. Thanks!
