Legally Work the Streets!
Legally Work the Streets!

I know what you're thinking, but this has nothing to do with hookers, prostitutes, strippers or other sex jobs - so you can take your mind out of the gutter now. Okay, now that we've cleared that up, let's move on.

A fun, cool and completely legal way to make some extra money by working the streets is to do some part-time work for event and promotion marketing agencies. These companies will pay you to literally take their clients' messages, products and/or services to the streets via face-to-face, person-to-person, peer-to-peer and word-of-mouth.

These event and promotional staff/personnel positions are commonly referred to as: street team members, brand ambassadors, field ambassadors and consumer marketers.

As the consumer's frontline connection to the product or service, you're paid to know the product or service and present the information to the customer in a friendly, upbeat, and professional manner with the hope of gaining the customer's product loyalty.

Event and promotional staff/personnel execute programs for products and services that include sports, airlines, appliances, automotive, beverages, bath and beauty products, candy, cereal, computers, electronics, entertainment, e-commerce, energy drinks, financial services, home safety, industrial products, liquor, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, snack foods and more.

What types of events, promotions and campaigns are we talking about?

New Product Launches
Flyer Crews (pass out flyers)
Coupon Distribution
Special Events Sampling Promotions
Trade Shows
In-Store Demonstrations
Mall Events
Nightlife Promotions
Auto Shows

on 7/16/2009 Party Promoting is certainly a hustle type of job. But you can make bank quick! Only people who are really good at it can make great money though.

on 6/1/2008 Well-written article. I have to take issue with one thing though: the only substantive difference between being pimped out as a prostitute and being pimped out by "event and promotion marketing agencies" is that the former is illegal and the latter is legal. This is why your prematurely abandoned analogy works in the first place. For more on this, please see: http://noise.typepad.com/derek_melot/2007/07/policing-priori.html#comment-76416128
