Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Pen
-
Step 1
Tell your teenager that he will need to sign a driving contract before you hand over the keys. The contract should be a condition of getting his license rather than a punishment for later breaking a rule.
-
Step 2
Decide what rules must be followed, such as a 3.0 grade point average, no speeding and the number of passengers allowed in the car.
-
Step 3
Type or write the contract. Keep it simple by bulleting each condition that must be followed. Include consequences for breaking the rules. For instance, your teen will lose her driving privileges for two weeks if she breaks curfew.
-
Step 4
Make copies for both you and your child.
-
Step 5
Go over the contract with your teen. Let him have some input, but remember that you have the final say.
-
Step 6
Make any changes you and your teen come up with together. Don't negotiate after this step.
-
Step 7
Sign the contract.
