Put the pad of paper by your PC. Write down the things you want to do when you discover those items you used to do in XP or 2000 and now just have no clue how to do them in Vista.
Step3
Press F1 (on your keyboard) when you are actually in the middle of a quandary. Vista's help-feature is aware of where you are in windows and will try to help you with operations in that area. You can solve most problems in this step.
Step4
Not finding the answer to every issue? Don't stress about it. Write it down on that pad of paper. As you resolve these questions, cross them off or make notes as to what you did. You will feel great about how much you've learned.
Step5
Set aside some time to look up the answers on the Internet. Trust me there's an answer for every one of your questions. By doing this, you will build knowledge and experience.
Here are some sites to help you.

Step6
Sometimes you just want to find that feature fast and you can't recall where it is to save your life. Solution: Click Vista's Start-ball > Type the name of the action you need > hit [enter]. More than 50% of the time, you can guess the word to type simply by typing a logical word in the field.
Tip: Type shorter versions of the word, not longer versions.
*Type Parent, not parental control
*Type defrag, not defragment
*Type calc, not calculator
Examples:
Can't find the defragment-tool. Its called defrag so type DEFRAG
Want that new parent control feature in vista? Type PARENT.
There are tons of words you can type that will work here.
TIP: Try this with programs that don't come with vista. If you installed a program with a simple name, just type the name like OUTLOOK, NERO, WINAMP, INTUNES, etc.
Step7
Click Start > Control panel > Classic view. Spend some time exploring control panel. There's a ton of features in here and odds are they are ones you have been looking for.
Step8
Align yourself with people / friends who actually know how to use Vista. It will make you smarter in the ways of vista. It will also help you build a positive help-network.
