R.A. Salvatore is a prolific author and creator of one of fantasy literature's most beloved characters, Drizzt Do'Urden. Salvatore has a large number of books detailing the adventures of Drizzt, and it can often be difficult for new readers to know where to begin. So, here is how to follow the Drizzt book series. One word of warning - once you begin reading, you can expect to spend a lot of time and money playing catch up!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A printout of R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt series (which you have right here!)

Step1
R.A. Salvatore's famous Drizzt series takes place in the land of "The Forgotten Realms." Fans are first introduced to the character of Drizzt Do'Urden, the dark elf, in the book "The Crystal Shard."

The Crystal Shard is the first book in the Icewind Dale trilogy. The next two books in the series are "Streams of Silver" and "The Halfling's Gem."
Step2
The second trilogy of the Drizzt series is called "The Dark Elf Trilogy." This series consists of the books "Homeland," "Exile" and "Sojourn."

These books deal with Drizzt leaving his underground home of Menzoberranzan and are in fact, a prequel to the Icewind Dale trilogy.

You can read these books first if you wish, but as far as the order of release, they were written after the Icewind Dale trilogy.
Step3
The next series of books are the "Legacy of the Drow" collection. Individually, these books are, "The Legacy," "Starless Night," "Seige of Darkness" and "Passage to Dawn."

These books further evolve the relationships of Drizzt's friends Wulfgar, Catti-brie, Bruenor and Regis. Also, there are events and characters mentioned in these books which are from another of Salvatore's series, The Cleric Quintet. For a full understanding of the adventures, the Cleric Quintet should be read prior to the Legacy of the Drow collection.

The Cleric Quintet features the novels, "Canticle," "In Sylvan Shadows," "Night Masks," "The Fallen Fortress" and "The Chaos Curse."
Step4
The "Paths of Darkness" collection of novels are next in the Drizzt series. In order, these books include "The Silent Blade," The Spine of the World," "Servant of the Shard" and "Sea of Swords."

The Paths of Darkness collection sees Drizzt's merry band broken up and scattered to all points. Each book works as a solitary read, while furthering the overall story.
Step5
The Hunter's Blades Trilogy are the next novels in the line of Drizzt adventures. The trilogy begins with "The Thousand Orcs," then continues with "The Lone Drow" and concludes with "The Two Swords."
Step6
The novel "Servant of the Shard," while not officially a Drizzt book, deals with his two primary enemies, Artemis Entreri and the rogue Drow, Jarlaxle. This book has also spawned two more recent sequels, "Promise of the Witch King" and "Road to the Patriarch." The entire trilogy is titled "The Sellswords Series."
Step7
Salvatore's Drizzt series of books are filled with action, swashbuckling adventure and just plain, good old-fashioned storytelling! While the list may seem overwhelming, these books are a must-read for anyone who is a fan of fantasy.

For easier reading, each trilogy is available in its own compilation.
