If you are a new-comer to Adobe Premiere Pro, but have a basic understanding of non-linear editing systems, here is a quick tutorial on how to create a transition between two clips in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Need Digitized Footage
  • Adobe Premium Pro
  1. Step 1

Open Premiere Pro, start a project and save it.

  2. Step 2

Import your footage into a clip and drag it into a Timeline.

  3. Step 3

Make your edits and have two different clips, in different video tracks in the Timeline, for example, Video 1 and Video 2. (See my other entry on How to Make Basic Edits to Video Using Adobe Premiere Pro.)

  4. Step 4

Go to Sequence, and click on “Apply Video Transition.”

  5. Step 5

Double click on the area within the Timeline that has the transition applied to it. It will appear as a purple bar over the clip in the Timeline. Double clicking it will open it’s Effects panel. You can change options on the transition now within that window, for example, the duration, and at what point on the clips the transition will start and stop. Save your work!

Tips & Warnings
  • To set the duration of the default transition, go to Edit, Preferences, General. Click the Effects panel menu button. Choose Default Transition Duration. Change the value for the Video Transition Default Duration or Audio Transition Default Duration, and then click OK.
  • To align a transition in the Timeline panel, zoom in so that you can clearly see the transition. Drag the transition over the cut to reposition it.
