Training a puppy how to go outside requires patience, consistency, and a good carpet cleaner. This article will help you learn how to use an everyday household cleaner to clean up even the worst of puppy accidents!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old towel or rag
  • 409 (Regular)
  1. Step 1

Once your puppy has had an accident on the carpet and you have appropriately sent the puppy outside to do his or her duty, it's time to clean up the mess. Do not try wiping up the urine before you obtain the proper tools.

  2. Step 2

First, you want to find a bottle of regular 409 cleanser. Do not use any of the citrus, orange, or other scented 409 cleansers, as they will not work.

  3. Step 3

Next, you want to squirt the 409 onto the urine. DO NOT scrub the spot, or you will create a deeper stain. Allow the 409 to sit on the urine spot for about 10 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Take a towel or rag (not a paper towel), and blot the urine spot. Make sure you blot the urine stain, do not scrub it. Scrubbing causes it to make a white foam, which may leave a permanent stain.

  5. Step 5

Leave the towel on the urine spot for about 5 more minutes to soak up any remaining stain. Then, remove the towel and allow to dry. Repeat if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use an older towel that has been washed and dried.
  • Do not use a dark-colored towel--use a lighter colored towel instead.
  • This methodology has also been proven to work when Fido goes number two once the larger pieces have been removed!
  • This has only been tested with 409--I do not recommend any other household cleanser for this type of cleaning.
  • Keep your puppy and small children away from the spot until it is fully dried.
