How to Knit in the Stockinette Stitch

The Stockinette Stitch in Knitting is called for in many patterns, especially sweaters. It is a pattern of alternating knitted and purled rows.

3. Purl the second row. For directions on the purl stitch, see the eHow How To article "How to Make the Purl Stitch in Knitting."

4. Repeat steps two and three until the project is the correct length, or all the rows in the pattern have been completed. You should have alternating rows of knit and purl stitches.
