Things You'll Need:
- crochet hook (size J or larger)
- One skein of thick, bulky yarn
-
Step 1
Make a slip knot and chain about 14 stitches. You can adjust the number of chain stitches for this base chain. Just keep chaining until you have the width desired for your scarf.
-
Step 2
Make one extra chain stitch and turn. Put the crochet hook through the second chain from the hook and make a single crochet stitch. Make single crochet stitches in every chain until the end of the row. At the end of the row take the time to count your single crochet stitches. You should have the same number of single crochets as you had chains.
-
Step 3
Make a second row on top of the first. At the end of the first row chain one and turn. Make a single crochet through both top loops of the single crochet underneath. Make single crochets across until the end of the row.
-
Step 4
Continue making rows of single crochet stitches until your scarf is as long as you want it to be. To end the scarf, cut the yarn and pull the loose end through the loop on your last single crochet stitch.
-
Step 5
If desired, add fringe to the ends of the scarf. Cut many short, equal lengths of yarn. Using a crochet hook, loop and tie the yarn (using two or three pieces at a time) through the stitches on each end of the scarf.
