A double crochet stitch is one of the most commonly used in crochet. It is quick and easy to learn.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • crochet hook (any size)
  • yarn
  1. Step 1

Make a slip knot. Put the crochet hook through the loop in the knot. Catch the yarn with the hook and pull it through to make a chain stitch. Continue making chain stitches until you have as many as you want.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the yarn around the hook once. Put the hook through the fourth chain from the hook. Catch the yarn with the hook and pull it through the chain. Now there will be three loops on the hook.

  3. Step 3

Catch the yarn with the hook and pull it through the first two of the three loops on the crochet hook. Now there will be two loops on the hook.

  4. Step 4

Catch the yarn with the hook and pull it through the last two loops on the hook. Now the double crochet stitch is complete and only one loop is on the hook.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make additional rows of double crochet stitches, chain three at the end of the last double crochet stitch. This chain will act as the first double crochet of the next row. Turn and make a double crochet in the top of the second chain from the hook.
  • When making additional rows after the base row, be sure to put the crochet hook through both loops at the top of the double crochet stitches.
