Things You'll Need:
- Colored Permanent Markers
- Labels or Masking Tape
-
Step 1
Color coding is ideal if you have more than one child. I assign each of my four children a color, and everything I get them is that color - this helps eliminate confusion over whose is whose. One child has red, the second yellow, the third blue, and the last has green. It help to choose common colors so that you can easily find items in these colors.
-
Step 2
Each child's clothes basket color-coded with their name and color. Each child has a toothbrush in their color, they all have towels in their color, and the bed sheets are also color coordinated. For laundry I purchased plain, white clothe baskets. I wrote each child's name on their basket with a permanent marker of their assigned color. As I fold clean laundry I put each child's clothes in their own basket, and it is ready for them to put away. If you buy all the baskets of the same size, they will stack neatly away inside each other when not in use.
-
Step 3
I also have a file folder in each child's color. I put school papers, notes and information for each child in their folder, and that way they don't get mixed up.
-
Step 4
Label everythig. It helps to label EVERYTHING. Label where the toys go, where the books go, where the shoes go and even where the dirty clothes go. Not only will you help your child learn to put things away, you will also be sneaking a reading lesson in for younger children that are just starting to recognize words. If you children are very young, you could include a picture on the label along with the word.
