From Quick Guide: Functional Resume 101
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The point of the functional resume is to show what you have accomplished rather then how many places you have worked. Some people have long lists of accomplishments that would be cumbersome to place in a resume, yet would be very helpful to the person who finally sees the resume. That is where a functional resume comes in. The fist step is to list accomplishment by type. (i.e., for the arts, how many exhibitions, for freelancers, how many types of articles, news stories.

  2. Step 2

Make sure each category has the total number of places, types, or number of times you have accomplished that endeavor; such as dancers, total number of musicals or operas. Freelance copy writer total number of copy written pieces.

  3. Step 3

Fill in the resume with overall experience and expertise, to match how many venues, projects, or types of jobs you have had in the past.
Never forget, internships, volunteer work, and other non-paying venues are not only worthy of a place on this type of resume, they may be the difference to getting that all important second interview, or the job offer itself.
