You would love to get along with your work mates and maybe be promoted some day in the future. What rules should you follow to be successful? Here are some clear tips for a head start on workplace etiquette.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A really great attitude and willingness to improve yourself and the way you relate to others.

Step1
Share Your Toys - Hoarding supplies, kind words and ideas is a childish endeavor. Help newcomers get settled at your job site, keep your boss up-to-date on what’s happening in your area and teach the new guy how to do tasks without having to be asked to do it. Be a team player all the time.
Step2
Smile -
When you’re in a good mood, happy and smiling at others, they will treat you better, smile back at you and enjoy your company. If you are the one to always see the dark side of things, you need to change that right now.
Step3
Listen and Learn -
Even if someone disagrees with you and tries to change the way you do your work, give them a chance to explain themselves and try out their ideas before stomping on their creativity. Especially when a new worker starts a job, it is imperative that you listen to them. They just might have done something better, faster or more efficiently at another company.
Step4
Stop Whining -
Chronic complainers are very disruptive to a high-functioning team environment. A whiner not only demotivates her work mates, but drags the other people down to her level. If you don’t like something that is happening at your workplace, take your boss aside and talk to them about it privately. Give him a chance to fix the problem.
Step5
Don’t Waste Company Time - Don’t spend all day emailing with your friends when you should be working, or taking one-hour lunches that are supposed to last thirty minutes. Stealing time that should be spent working is hurting the company, your department and you. Slackers don’t get promotions (unless they happen to be related to the boss).
Step6
Give A Hoot - If you’re going to spend eight or nine hours each day for five or six days per week doing something, make it something you care about and enjoy. You should feel good about yourself after a hard day at work. You should want to contribute to your organization’s success. If you don’t, go somewhere else.
Step7
Do Unto Others - Never say or do something to a work mate that you would not like to have said or done to you. Give everyone respect without making them work for it. Assume that others are going to treat you well and act like adults. Behave yourself at work at all times. Management will take notice and give you the respect and accolades you deserve.
