COURTESY WHAT IS COURTESY? Oxford Advance learners Dictionary define Courtesy thus: A polite behavior that shows respect for other people; A kind thing you may or should do when you meet people in a formal situation. It is worrisome that majority in our society consider this simple, but very important gesture lightly and treat humans and relationships trivially. Courtesy is born out of a reflex heart and it’s a product of good moral background or better said good social orientations. Courtesy is extolled by many, but its true tenets in terms of practicality is upheld and practiced by a few. little wonder why the swift degenerating and social structural destructive tendencies seem to be gaining prominence in recent times, yet no one seems to be asking why. We acknowledge Courtesy when we adequately appropriate words of gratitude, pleasantries, compliments and the totality of kind actions and or reactions to others including our immediate surrounding. As Christians, we are epistles, not written with ink, but read by men. The light of the world that’s what the scripture refers us as. The implication of this is that men (the world) should be able to see a reflection of Christ in us and thereto conclude us as his true followers in deeds, words and actions. Our interest everywhere, at work, schools, our homes, within and outside our Jerusalem, should be a target of characteristic impact that will preach Christ, win a soul even without our opening our mouths. Permit me to ask here, is this true of your lifestyle? Reflect on your yesterday and today. It is an essential ingredient for shaping futures. Now it doesn’t also matter to who you show kindness, because you may never tell who and from whence cometh thy blessings.
