How to Make Writing Fun

One of the best gifts you can give a students is the gift of laughter in the classroom. Writing is a great subject to teach because you can make it so much fun. With this simple game, you will all be writing, laughing and having fun. The students will enjoy this game so much that they will play it on their own free time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pen
  • paper
  • at least 4 people
  1. Step 1

    Everyone should be seated in a circle. Each person, teacher included, needs to start with a pen and paper.

  2. Step 2

    To start the game, everyone begins to write a few sentences on the piece of paper in front of them. The goal is to create a story so write about whatever you choose.

  3. Step 3

    After writing, a few sentences, fold the paper over so that the sentences are hidden.

  4. Step 4

    Begin another sentence, but do not end it. Example: Next, she went to the . . .

  5. Step 5

    Pass the paper to the person to your right.

  6. Step 6

    Finish the sentence on the paper that is passed to you. Write a few more. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until everyone has written on all papers. Announce when it is time to the end, and encourage students to write a few concluding sentences.

  7. Step 7

    Read the stories aloud, and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Anticipate some problems depending on age.
  • Make rules about appropriate topics, language, etc.
  • Make a rule that you are not allowed to write about any students, teachers, or people at the school.
