Most arthritic folks can barely remember the days when they could sleep until the sun rose high in the sky. Once arthritis hits, it is early to bed and early to rise--and pain is your alarm clock. But pain doesn't have to affect your independence. There are many arthritic aids available nowadays that can ease your pain as you go through your day.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Arthritic Toiletry Aids
  • Arthritic Bathing Aids
  • Arthritic Dressing Aids

Step1
Take advantage of the arthritic toiletry aids available to preserve your dignity and independence. Easing oneself onto the toilet can become a simple matter with elevated toilet seats or seats with strong arms to hold onto. The best gadgets, though, and the ones that make folks feel more self-reliant: the wiping aids. Perhaps it has become difficult to reach back or front to clean yourself, and so hygiene is always a concern. Special tongs, spring-loaded clips, or even silicone-coated wiping aids can change all of that, and give you your personal toilet space back.
Step2
Check into the arthritic bathing aids available to help those whose bathing has become uncomfortable, painful, and unsafe. You will be surprised to see how many bath and shower chairs are available for arthritic persons: seats, grab bars, non-slip treads, sliding benches, and swiveling chairs. Once in the shower, take advantage of more great shower aids like a long-handled scrubber or even a tingly foot scrubber to clean and relax your soles. If the shower is still more than you think you can safely handle, there are also a wide variety of no rinse shampoo and bathing items that allow bathing refreshment WITHOUT WATER !
Step3
Look into ways to make getting dressed independently more manageable and less painful. Put on your own socks with clever sock aids; insert your feet snugly into shoes with telescopic shoe horns; and lace up your sneakers with special fasteners. Dressing sticks gently grasp clothing and assist in dressing. Because of its soft tips, the dressing stick handles your clothing with the care.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be ashamed to ask for help when you need it.
  • Do research to find aids that have been designed for the specific problem you are experiencing.
  • Never give up !!
