Things You'll Need:
- Clean quart jars
- cheesecloth to cover the tops of jars
- large canning kettle with rack
- milk, either skim or whole milk
- sugar

Step 1
Place 2 cups of milk with 2 cups of granulated sugar in each jar.

Cover tops of jars with cheesecloth and place the jars on a rack in an open kettle.

Fill the kettle with water to the level of the milk in the jars.

Step 4
Heat to just below boiling, and keep that temperature until the milk mixture in the jars is reduced by half. This takes a long time, about 48 hrs. Each jar yields about 2 cups.
