When you’re a gamer, you can easily spend hundreds of dollars each year on your favorite video games. While you get a lot for your money, this can often be too expensive. Luckily, there are ways that you can save money buying video games that you really love. You won’t have to sacrifice quality and you can still get the same amount of games as you normally would. You’ll just be spending a lot less money!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Small amount of money
  • Television
  • Video game console

Step1
When in doubt, buy used games. Buying a used game can usually save you at least five dollars. If you need that newer game right now, you can find the used version only a few weeks after it’s first released.
Step2
Wait longer for bargain prices. The longer you wait to buy a game, the cheaper it will be. It’s common to find a certain game for half the price after it’s been out for one year.
Step3
Look for sales. It doesn’t happen often, but some stores have video game sales. This is usually during the holiday season and it can save you at least a few bucks.
Step4
Check out stores that are going out of business. When an electronics store goes out of business, they have great discounts on all their merchandise. While televisions and movies move quickly, there are usually a lot of great video games left. If a store is closing near you, jump on this opportunity.
Step5
Rent games instead of buying them. Some games don’t take very long to complete. For these titles, you can save money by renting them instead. This is also a huge money saver if you don’t care much for owning a large video game collection.
Step6
Buy games from friends. Friends will always give you a great deal. If they’re low on funds, suggest buying some of their games. You’ll be doing them a favor!

Tips & Warnings

  • When you buy a game disc used, make sure to ask to see the disc first before shelling out the cash. Look for scratches or other disc deformities. If it’s not up to your standards, then don’t buy it.
  • If there’s a game in the bargain bin that you’ve never heard of, ask around first. Sometimes that bin is littered with terrible games. It takes diligence to weed them out.
