When it comes to movies, one of the most popular genres is horror. Movie goers love to get scared and jump out of their seats. Even better than seeing these classics in a theater is watching them in the supposed comfort of your own home. A great horror movie collection means you can watch scary movies whenever you want. This also means that you have the added scare factor of being home alone in a dark and creaky house. There are certain movies and series that need to be in a horror collection in order for it to be complete.

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Assess your horror movie needs. Do you already have some horror movies? If so, you can compound on what you already have. If much of your horror is from the 1980s, make sure to pick up more current horror movies.
Step2
Go for the series classics. No horror movie collection would be complete without such great movies as Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, or Friday the 13th. Even if you don’t plan on buying the complete series, you should at least by the originals.
Step3
Mix up horror movie subgenres. There are a lot of different types of horror movies. There are ghost stories, slashers, monster and zombie movies. A great collection will have some of everything.
Step4
Read reviews on different horror movies. Sometimes you need the opinion of others to find the best movies. If you’re unsure of what to buy, talk to friends and other trusted people to find what’s great in the horror movie genre.
Step5
Mix up formats. Don’t feel bad if some of your current collection comes in VHS. Since buying the new DVD versions can be expensive, don’t be afraid to hold onto this older format for a while. Just know that they won’t last forever and you’ll need to replace them eventually.
Step6
Display your collection with pride. The best movie collections are the ones that are out for all to see. If you spent the money and time building up your horror movie collection, be sure to show it off.

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy your movies in widescreen format whenever possible. This will improve the film experience.
  • For an even bigger horror movie collection, add scary movies that are classified as comedies, such as Once Bitten and Shaun of the Dead.
  • Not sure of the quality of a particular movie? Rent it first! If you like it, then you can always buy it later.
  • You may end up sufficiently scared with a horror movie collection like this!
