Face it, men are stubborn. They also are not as strong as they appear. Most of them also hate to be poked and prodded. Plus, they all hate needles. For these reasons, you know getting them to go to the doctor is like pulling hair. They just do not want to go. They will postpone the trip. They will pretend to be better (when they are really sick). They will come up with reasons why they can not go. When all else fails they will tell you that they are just too sick to go to the doctor. But there are times, they (like everyone else) will have to go to the doctor. When they are sick or when you suspect something serious may be developing, it is even more imperative that they go to the doctor. You can't give up and you can't allow their excuses to get to you. You have to stand firm. Here are steps to try to get that man of yours to the doctor, when the next time arises.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Patience
  • Love

Step1
Remind him that he will feel better once he gets some medication.

If it is for an annual or regular checkup, remind him if he goes to this appointment it may keep him from getting sick and going to five more down the road.
Step2
Tell him that he is wasting money paying for health insurance he isn't using. If he is a thrifty sort of man, maybe he will take the bait.
Step3
Tell him that is cheaper to see the doctor than it would be to get sicker and then have to go to the Emergency Room. Then remind him of the horrors of the ER: the waiting, the extra germs, seeing a doctor you might not know, seeing a doctor who doesn't know your history and then mention the waiting, once more, along with the extra cost.
Step4
Try to use guilt on him. Tell him that you are worried about him. That you can't get anything done because of this worry. If he is a softie, this may work.

Try bribery. Tell him if goes to the doctor and gets well (or goes through that routine checkup), you and him can have an adult party. Sex is sometimes a great incentive for a man.

If not, skip the guilt and snap at him. Say something cute like, okay, don't go to the doctor. I'll up your life insurance policy. Then once you are dead, I'll be rich and then I can find me a younger guy the next time.
Step5
If nothing else works, tell him that you love him, that you worry about him and that you want to grow old with him. To do that, he has to stay healthy and this sometimes requires a trip to the doctor. Then offer to go with him. (Good idea anyway, to make sure he actually goes and tells the doctor what is wrong)
Step6
Once he finally goes to the doctor, thank him for going.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember it may take a bit of pleading, begging or planning to get your man to go to the doctor.
  • You should make the appointment for him.
  • Do not give up on your quest. Do not let his excuses win.

on 7/18/2008 Great tips. My mama always said, "If you want a man to do something, make him think it's his idea." : ) It's a challenge, keeps me on my toes but sometimes - it works!!!
