Wines are as diverse as foods. Grape type, maturation stage and freshness all contribute to each individual experience. While some people insist on a glass of wine every night with dinner, others shy away because they don’t know the right wines for their palate. Below is a guide to help determine wine choice for those who don’t (or think they don’t) like wine.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Notepad
Step1
Define what it is about wine you don’t like. Is it the heaviness of reds? The crispness of whites?
Step2
Attend a wine tasting. Local vineyards and wine shops usually offer these on a regular basis. Use the online resource www.LocalWineEvents.com if you need assistance locating a tasting.
Step3
Bring a notepad.
Step4
Take a sip of the first wine, swirling it in your mouth. Take notes on what you like and don’t like about the taste, texture and consistency.
Step5
Spit out the wine.
Step6
Repeat until you have tried all varieties available.
Step7
Present your list to the host of the tasting and ask her to recommend bottles she thinks you would like.
Step8
Try them at your leisure.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don’t like the taste of traditional wine, seek out brands with low alcohol levels such as Australia's BRL Hardy line of Wicked Wines!
  • Though very sweet, dessert wine is a far cry from its traditional counterparts.
