Things You'll Need:
- Feeder
- Patience
- Determination
- Consistancy
- 1- 2 months
-
Step 1
Place the feeder about 20 feet or slightly more from your house. This doesn't have to be exact, but it must be close enough to where they can see you come out of your door and far enough away that they feel comfortable to continue feeding!
-
Step 2
Have a chair(not very bright but any color is fine)sitting outside your door permanently, so that you can slowly every few days and week by week move it closer! Once they become acquainted with and take to your feeder... begin to come out side everyday very often so they get used to seeing you almost like a natural fixture! Don't wear bright colors! Go with earthy tones!
-
Step 3
Spend longer and longer intervals outside.... you'll have use your T.V. time or bring a book, or write out some bills, or keep a journal.... anything to get your mind off of the reason you're really out there! To get closer! If you don't keep yourself occupied i' m afraid you won't hold out long and it will be easy to give up!
-
Step 4
Keep moving your chair closer and be CAREFUL! The closer you get to the birds the closer you get to the little piercing tasters! They will get so used to you that they whiz right by you! I had five flying past me during one time. It got to where my sister and i could even stand in front of the feeder and they'd arrive as normal and light not 1 inch in front of us! One morning i wasn't even watching and while i ate my morning yogurt... one flew right up to my yogurt cup... while it was still in my hand ... and tasted the yogurt with it's tiny tongue! 20 full seconds of pure pleasure! Enjoying the things God meant for us to
enjoy! -
Step 5
It will take time and patience... but it will pay off! Whatever you do resist the urge and don't try to touch them! So you can just enjoy and respect nature from the best spot in the house!!! Be really determined and you'll get the seat!!!

This article's really for those who want to get Really Really close in a natural setting :) and are willing to put in the work for nature's bounty! The experiences I've had as these little wonders tickled my ears as they fluttered by is priceless! Thanks for your comment! Sincerely Hummingbird

on 12/7/2007 We have a feeder on a suction cup on our kitchen window. It's wonderful to watch them feed while having breakfast in the morning.
