Step 1
COSTUME SAFETY- While costumes are so exciting, they can only be quite dangerous so check and ensure they do not pose any harm to your child. Be sure all masks can be seen out of. Check that any props such as wands, play swords, etc. are not sharp or have edges that could hurt someone. Make sure shoes are not too large and that skirts and dresses are not too long, you don't want your child to be remembered as the neighborhood child who fell down a flight of steps on Halloween. At night time, wear reflective tape or carry a glow stick or flashlight so others can see you and so you can see where your child is going.

Step 2
PERSONAL SAFETY- Never trick or treat alone. There is really safety in numbers so if your child has the chance to trick or treat with friends, this is probably best. Only trick or treat at houses that are well lit and never trick or treat at any other area of a house except for the front door. When trick or treating, please remember your manners of please and thank you.

Step 3
CANDY CHECK- NEVER eat candy without a parent checking the candy first. For some parents, depending on where you live, hospitals and police departments offer a service of Xraying candy on Halloween so if this is an option, take advantage of it.

Step 4
HAVE A GREAT HALLOWEEN! Try to make this Halloween better than last. To some it may mean seeing who can collect the most candy and for others, it is a competition to see who has the most creative costume. Whatever drives you on Halloween, have a good time!
