Sold color contrasting French ribbon 3 to 6 yards of ribbon.
Fray Check or clear nail polish
Colored glass pebbles
Step1
Shopping for supplies...most of these items can be purchased at your local dollar store with the exception of the runner and ribbon. Use colors to match your theme or traditional Christmas red and green.
Step2
You can cover the table with a table cloth of a contrasting solid color, or use white. Put the runner down lengthwise of the table. Place the Pillar Candle in the center of the table on the plate. You can add the colored glass pebbles around the base. Place three to six of the votive candles in their holders at on each end of the pillar candle. Space about four inches apart.
Step3
French ribbon has wires to you can form the ribbon and it will hold it's shape. Place the center of the ribbon under the pillar candle and then curl it back and forth around the votive candles. Finish off the ends with a slant cut and use Fray Check to keep the ends from fraying. If you can't find Fray Check then use clear nail polish. Your centerpiece is complete and very simple.
Tips & Warnings
This is a very basic centerpiece. You can add flourishes as you wish. The nice thing about this centerpiece is it can be used with new colors and runner for other holidays and events.
Make certain if you plan to light the candles to set a mood that your ribbon is far enough away from the votives. You do not want to create a flaming centerpiece in the middle of your holiday dinner!

on 12/8/2007 No, I don't think a flaming centeriece would go over very well. Great idea and tips. Thanks.
