Dealing with postpartum depression can lead to thoughts of suicide and can be devastating to the family. Learn to recognize some of the symptoms.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
If you are going to experience postpartum depression, it will be sometime within two years of giving birth. The female body is going through some extraordinary changes from within. There are the over-abundance of the hormone levels, coupled with the mental aspects of being pregnant, and the delivery of the baby.
Additional factors include the mom's feelings about herself, her socio-economic state, her relationship status with her family, her significant other, and the apprehension of the babies health.
Another aspect to consider; was the pregnancy a difficult one that was beset with problems?
With the delivery of the child, the mom will be subjected to a lifestyle much different than she was accustomed to.
When you weigh in the factors one could understand the overwhelming surge of emotions that can plague her.
Step2
The acceptance and the ability of the woman to adapt to the baby seems to be one of the ways in which to avert postpartum depression.
If the mother is confident and self assured then it is reasonable to think she would view her child in a similar fashion.
When the mom is insolvent and can't pay her bills, then her anxiety can lead to postpartum depression if she thinks she can't give a suitable life for her child.
Step3
Negative thoughts produce negative results. Conversely, positive thoughts produce positive results.
The mental state of the mom can affect her well being and thus her depression.
Moreover, one should consider hereditary. If her mom had postpartum depression, the chances are greater than she will suffer from it too.
The depression may also reside with the father. Was the father actively involved in the whole process? Was he supportive and will he continue to be supportive? Or did he abandon the girl when he found out? If so, she may think that he will not be there after the baby is born.
Step4
Another indication to watch out for is how the new mom treats the baby. Does she ignore the crying baby? Or does she become infuriated with the baby and its incessant crying?
These are just some of the things to watch out for when you are dealing with someone you know who has postpartum depression. If you think you are suffering from it, you should seek professional help.
Step5
The doctor may tell you that one of the main things you can do to overcome the aliment is to eat more nutritious food.
The taking of one gram of omega-3 oil everyday may help.
Your consumption of protein should be increased. When protein is broken down, it creates serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter purported to help alleviate stress.
The intake of meat and eggs provide an adequate supply of protein.
Before you embark on any regimen, please consult with your physician. He or she should be told about any symptoms.
