Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- large baking potatoes
- salt
- pepper
- sour cream
- cheese
- onions
- bacon
- broccoli
Step1
Preheat the oven to 375-400 degrees.
400 will cook faster, 375 will come out better.
Step2
Wash the potatoes. Scrub them lightly with a sponge--you don't want to scrub the skins off but you want to make sure they aren't dirty!
Step3
Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and cook until done. Allow around 45 minutes. You can check if they are done by poking a hole in a potato with a fork, knife, or toothpick. It should go in fairly easily.
Step4
Cut the tops off of the potatoes and scoop the insides into a bowl. Keep the skins!
Step5
Mash the potatoes in the bowl and add ingredients. It is up to you what you want to add (the ingredients listed are just suggestions) and how much you want to add.
Salt gives the potatoes a good flavor, but remember not to add too much. People can always add more salt afterwards.
For sour cream, about 1 cup for every 3 potatoes works nicely. It is really up to you, though.
Step6
Scoop the mashed potatoes back into the potato skins. You can put the potatoes back in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese, heat them up, etc.
