The magician borrows a quarter from a spectator. He also borrows a cigarette or pencil. He takes the cigarette and presses it to the quarter. Suddenly, it pushes through the quarter. He removes it from the quarter and hands the quarter back, completely untainted.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cigarette
  • trick coin
  1. Step 1

Before finding a spectator, grasp your trick coin in your left hand. Ask the spectator if you can borrow a quarter. Be prepared to have your own if she does not have one. Accept her quarter in your right hand.

  2. Step 2

Ask to borrow a cigarette. If she does not have one, be prepared to have your own.

  3. Step 3

Have her ensure that her quarter and cigarette are not fake in any way.

  4. Step 4

Perform a coin pass, wherein you pass her quarter from right to left hand. In actuality, what you are doing is palming her quarter, and making the trick coin in your left hand pop up. This creates the illusion that you tossed a coin from one hand to the other, when you really just popped yours up.

  5. Step 5

Take the cigarette, and while explaining how this does not always work, proceed to press the cigarette through the coin. The trick coin actually has a little slot that you can bend back to allow small circular objects to penetrate through.

  6. Step 6

Show the quarter on both sides to say that the cigarette is all the way through. Remove the cigarette and close the quarter up. Hand the cigarette back to the spectator.

  7. Step 7

Perform another coin pass so that you hand her back her own real quarter. The end result will be that you just took a real quarter and made a real cigarette penetrate it, and yet it left no marks or sign of entry upon return.

Tips & Warnings
  • This can be done with a pencil instead of a cigarette.
  • Best to perform this with those already smoking as they are more likely to have a cigarette.
