Things You'll Need:
- Snake Plant
- Potting Soil
- Pot
- Fertilizer
-
Step 1
Generally Snake Plants start off in a three to six inch pot. Transplant into a six to eight inch pot. Make sure to put some potting soil in the bottom of the pot, about an inch of soil should do. Place plant on top of soil and fill in soil around pot. Make sure to firmly press down soil.
-
Step 2
Water the Snake Plant thoroughly with some fertilizer to help with the shock the plant will experience from transplanting. If you are using liquid fertilizer, you should use about a quarter less than recommended to avoid yellowing of the tips.
-
Step 3
The Snake Plant is a plant that can thrive in low or medium light. This plant should be watered about twice a month. Once a month in winter time. The Snake Plant will grow fast. Under the proper conditions it will produce fragrant flowers. When the shoots reach the ends of the pot, transplant into a larger pot. The shoots will break through any type of container it is in.
-
Step 4
If the Snake Plant get to big for any pot, it can be broken up into separate plants. Remove the plant from the pot and seperate the shoots from one another. Then plant into separate pots.

on 3/5/2009 Actually, I have a question. If the leaves of a mature snake plant are drooped over, should they be cut off at the base of the leaf? Also, I have a young start from the mother plant. Some of the leaves have yellow spots. As I prepare it to be a gift, should I cut those leaves off at the base also? Please reply to charla_506@yahoo.com
