There is nothing quite as comforting as a heaping helping of delicious Bourbon Baked Beans. This is a simple recipe that is easy to make and even add in some of your own favorite ingredients if you wish!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 large cans baked beans (original flavor works best)
  • molasses
  • brown sugar
  • chili sauce
  • real bacon pieces (I use Hormel)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup bourbon (I use Jim Beam)
Step1
** This is a recipe I created "to taste" meaning I never really measure anything out. Don't be afraid to add and subtract as you feel necessary! **

Start off with 2 large cans of baked beans, draining each can of extra juices. Then place the beans into your favorite slow cooker or bean pot.
Step2
Add the bourbon, starting with a 1/4 cup. Then add a couple of tablespoons of real bacon pieces, a tablespoon or two of molasses and brown sugar (unpacked). Stir.
Step3
When it comes to the chili sauce, you will want to add it a teaspoon at a time until you find the right amount of heat to your liking. For the two can recipe, I usually start of with three teaspoons or so.
Step4
Once all is stirred, set and forget in your crock pot for an hour on Medium-High heat. When using a bean pot, set your oven to 325° and cook for about 30 to 45 minutes. Then stir. This is the perfect time to taste again and see if you need to make any alterations.
Step5
After another half hour to an hour, your beans should be ready and delicious! Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

  • I recommend serving with crisp, crumbled bacon on top or even with some freshly baked buttermilk biscuits.

on 6/4/2008 You can also make your own beans from scratch instead of canned. I think I like that better!

on 6/2/2008 I had something similar to this, but it lacked bacon. We all know that bacon makes everything tastier!
