There are so many ways of potty training a kid, and they all seem like much more effort than necessary. By making the bathroom a normal, non-threatening and happy place for your child you can kiss diapers good-bye!
Whenever your child is home and you do not have guests, use the bathroom with the door open. The root of many children's toilet fears are the most basic fear—fear of the unknown. This step has been enough for some kids. Baby wants to be like daddy and mommy and will imitate you.
Step2
Make the bathroom a welcoming place for your child. You can put a toilet training seat beside the real toilet, some puzzle or coloring books with your reading material, any kind of toys easily reachable from the toilet or training seat.
Step3
Talk to your child while you use the toilet and be as casual as if you were cooking dinner. Answer any questions and actively encourage any imitation. If your child goes to use the toilet while you're taking a shower or using the bathroom for any other purpose do not make much mention of it, but be sure to praise the child afterward.
Step4
If Steps 1 to 3 do not leave your child fearless about the toilet, do not despair. Talk to the child about their concerns, learn what their fears are.
Step5
Step 4 leaves you with knowledge of your child's issues and so you can address them by changing your own behavior. For example, if your child is afraid of a monster coming out when they flush you can close the lid as a monster guard and then flush. Sounds silly, but this was a concern for more than one child!
Tips & Warnings
This is the no force, no coercion method: do not ask or tell your child to use the toilet while using this method, let them think it's their idea and it will be!
Some children are too small and will fall into the toilet when trying to use it, if your child jumps the gun use a training seat.
