Things You'll Need:
- Empathy
- Preplanned Budget
- Internet access
-
Step 1
Figure out exactly how much you can afford to spend before starting to look at gifts. Do not go over that amount.
-
Step 2
Forget about money or price, or having to live up to someone else's expectation. It really doesn't matter how much you spend on the gift, and if it does, then the friends can't be good ones. If you want to spend a fortune, do it because you have it AND what you're getting will really make your friends happy. If you don't have it, don't spend it.
-
Step 3
Know your friends. Know what will make them happy. If it's a first wedding of two young people, they probably need housewares. If, however, it's a second wedding, they probably have all the housewares they need and would prefer a nice massage or homemade jam. Feel free to get creative in catering to your friend's hobbies. Embroidery tools are not too expensive, and neither is one well made chisel for woodworkers, and it will show that you're paying attention.
-
Step 4
If you just can't figure out what your friend will love, get a book gift certificate for how much you budgeted. Everybody needs more books, and your friends can pick out what interests them. Putting a nice card with a hand-written poem celebrating their marriage will add the personal touch that is required. It doesn't matter how good your handwriting is, as long as you take the time to make it legible.
-
Step 5
Give whatever gift you decide upon with a sincere smile and warm wishes for the happy couple's future. Weddings are about two people agreeing to go through life together, which is a miracle of its own.
