There is more to preventing sunburn and skin cancer than many people know, as well as avoiding premature wrinkling of the skin. It's not just about wearing sunblock and avoiding sun rays during peak hours of the day. It's an art...

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • sunblock lotion with UVA and UVB protection or
  • sunblock with broad spectrum protection or
  • sunblock with helioplex
  • tan accelerator product for tanning bed
  • sun after care lotion with aloe and Vitamin E
  • sun umbrella

Step1
The first thing you will need to do is understand sun rays. UV rays, or ultraviolet rays, are the sun rays that cause skin cancer, sunburn, and premature wrinkling of the skin.
Step2
UV rays can be further broken down into UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are the ones that cause sunburn. These rays are stronger closer to the sun, such as in the summer and closer to the equator. UVA rays cause premature wrinkling of the skin, and are present in the same strength regardless of where you are.
Step3
Sunburn is prevented by blocking the UVB rays of the sun with any sunblock lotion SPF 15 or higher. You can avoid sunburn by using a tanning bed with tanning bed lotion, avoiding the sun's hottest rays during the summer and before 10 am and after 4 pm, and staying away from the sun near the equator and in high altitudes.
Step4
But, for skin cancer prevention and premature wrinkles, there is more to the equation. You need sunblock with UVA and UVB protection, or broad spectrum protection. Helioplex is one specific substance to provide such broad spectrum coverage from the sun.
Step5
Neutrogena with Helioplex Where will you be going? If you are going to Florida, the Caribbean or South America you will need more sunburn protection than if you go to Boston, for instance. Use higher levels of protection. Neutrogena makes a sunblock with SPF 55 with helioplex, providing maximum protection.
Step6
If you will be on a mountain, the sun rays are higher at higher elevations. You will need UVA and UVB rays protection of SPF 50 or higher, such as with a helioplex product.
Step7
If you are driving in your car, most windshields only protect from UVB sunburn rays. You will need to wear a UVB sunblock on all exposed skin, including your hands and neck!
Step8
The sun can cause damage even when you are indoors, whenever the sun hits your skin through a window. Make sure to protect yourself from skin cancer and premature wrinkling while indoors by wearing sunblock to protect from UVA rays.
Step9
Australian Gold Indoor and Outdoor Tanning Accelerator Sun damage by UVA rays occurs in a tanning bed. A commercial tanning bed doesn't cause much sunburn, but skin cancer and premature wrinkling are the effects of tanning bed. Choose a lower tanning bed lamp. Wear a tanning accelerator, which speeds up the production of melanin in your skin. Wear low level UVA sunblock as well, such as SPF 4 or 8.
Step10
Sunburn and Sun Exposure After Care Lotion If you already have been exposed to the sun and have a sunburn, sunburn care is important. For sunburn relief and sunburn care, choose a product with Aloe and Vitamin E. Aloe helps soothe the skin and heal sunburn. Vitamin E helps elasticity return to your skin. Sunburn treatment lotion also can help from the damaging UVA rays, by moisturizing the skin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most car windshields only protect against UVB sunburn rays of the sun. You can now buy clearplex windshield protection film for your car windshield to block UVA and UVB rays of the sun.
  • You can use tanning accelerators that speed up your melanin production for outdoor tanning as well.
  • At the beach or while walking around in the hot sun, use a sun umbrella to protect you from the sun damaging rays.
  • Freckles can be a sign of overexposure to the sun and skin damage. Don't just disregard them as normal, especially if they occur in a new area of the skin in a cluster.
  • Always watch for signs of skin cancer, such as a freckle or mole changing shape. If you suspect a cancer skin symptom, have it checked by a doctor.
  • Not all clothes protect your skin from the sun rays. Lightweight fabrics do not protect as well as cotton.
