Everyone feels depressed at one time or another. When feelings of sadness continue on, however, they can interfere with all aspects of your life. Doctors often suggests taking an antidepressant to help depressed people deal with their emotions in a positive way. Only you can decide if an antidepressant is right for you. Make yourself aware of the side effects of common antidepressants and decide if taking an antidepressant is worth it to you.

  • Access to research on antidepressants.
  • A knowledgeable doctor or psychologist.

Step1
Depression Don't ignore feelings of sad but sadness or hopelessness. If you experience these feelings for more than a few weeks, need to talk to someone about depression. Depression can affect many areas of your life, including work, friendships, and personal relationships.
Step2
See Your Doctor He continued to feel depressed, make an appointment to see your doctor. Your family doctor is able to go over treatment options with you and prescribed antidepressants.

Antidepressants Antidepressants are useful drunks are some people who feel overwhelmingly depressed. Antidepressants need to be used with caution filled because they do have side effects and it can be difficult to stop taking them. You can also take several weeks to several months to figure out the proper dosage that will work for you.

Stress Relief If you don't find answers from your doctor, consider seeing a psychologist. He will be able to work with you in other ways and minimize or eliminate the need for antidepressant drugs.

Research Side Effects Do your own research. Find out what side effects each medication had and if one might be an option for you. You have the right to refuse treatment if you don't want to take antidepressants. Ask what other methods might help ease your depression.

  • Make an effort to be social and get out of the house.
  • See a professional immediately if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts.
  • Continue to see a doctor if you do choose to take an antidepressant.
  • Never discontinue taking an antidepressant without the consent of your doctor.
