Poetry is an artform that crosses all cultural lines. A political poem is one that conveys a message of collective economic empowerment and control of the natural environment.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pen/pencil
  • paper
  • computer
  1. Step 1

Read political poems from various decades. Determine what the content is addressing. Select your favorite authors.

  2. Step 2

Go see some live poetry. Take some notes on how people present themselves and the content of what they're saying. Assess what political ideologies they tackle, if any.

  3. Step 3

Purchase nice journals and pens. Whever you have a political or poetic thought, write it down.

  4. Step 4

Decide what issues are important to you and determine what type, technically and stylistically, you want to write.

  5. Step 5

Discipline yourself. Write on a schedule. Try to be as prolific as possible in a short amount of time.

  6. Step 6

Decide how you want to present your political poem. You can present it in front of a live audience or have it published in magazines or journals.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your poem is potent and relevant.
  • Purchase a taperecorder to record your thoughts if you don't like the pen to paper method.

on 7/13/2008 I regularly write political poetry. I get my ideas from watching CNN, CSPAN, and various online outlets (YouTube, YahooNews).
