To create a high quality (high resolution) image using Adobe Photoshop, you must first start with a high quality scan. The scanner used in this explanation is a CanoScan® LiDE 80.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Open Adobe Photoshop, go to "File, Import" and select the name of your scanner.

  2. Step 2

Place your photograph or other documents on the scanner bed.

  3. Step 3

Select your source as "Platen." Select the appropriate color mode (black and white, color) and make your output resolution 300 or higher. The higher the resolution, the finer your pixels (grain) in your photograph will be.

  4. Step 4

Select "preview." After your initial image comes up, make your necessary adjustments and cropping.

  5. Step 5

    Click "scan." Save your work.

Tips & Warnings
  • The higher the resolution during the scan, the higher "quality" (finer grain) the image is.
  • The higher the resolution of your image, the more space it will take up on your hard drive.
  • Keep track of your available hard drive space using the Disk Defragmenter utility.
