If you are editing or compositing video footage and find your footage is not the correct speed or length of time, it is very easy to make adjustments with Adobe After Effects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Adobe After Effects
  • Digitized video footage
  1. Step 1

Open After Effects and import your footage into a Timeline.

  2. Step 2

Select the clip that you want to change the speed of by clicking on it under “Layer Name” in the Timeline.

  3. Step 3

Go to the Layer pull-down menu and select, "Time", and then, "Time Stretch."

  4. Step 4

The window that pops up shows the stretch factor with “100%” pre-populated, and it’s current duration (length of time.) You can either choose to make the clip a certain percentage slower or faster (100% faster, 50 % slower, etc.) or you can type in the exact time you want the clip to be. If you are not sure, choose a percentage and play around.

  5. Step 5

In the "Time Controls" Menu, click on the “RAM Preview” button.

  6. Step 6

Watch your footage, and repeat the above steps until you get it to the speed you want.
