Step 1
Open up your favorite Web browser and type "www.ets.org/gre/" to get to the home page of the GRE. ETS is the company that creates and adminisers the test. As well as registration, this page offers links to a variety of GRE-related materials. If you have experience with Web technology, the site is pretty user-friendly and you will not need to read any farther in this eHow.

Underneath a breif paragraph describing the GRE is a set of links decribed "Test Takers." Select the second one down - "Register for the GRE." This will take you to a page offering a choice between the General Test and Subject Tests.

If you are taking the General Test, either select the link below the description, or the open circle to the left of the "General Test" banner. This will take you to a page with a variety of resources about registering for the GRE. The prefered method of taking the GRE is as a computer-based test and in the United States, Canada and many other countries it is the only option. Paper-based testing is available in countries where computer-based is not available.

Select the top link: "Register for the Computer-based Test" to see if where you want to take the test has this option. This link will take you to the possible ways of registering for the computer-based GRE. Since you are already on-line, select the link for "On-line Registration".

This will open a page where you will again have to select whether you are taking the General Test or a Subject Test. Choose the General Test. Another drop-down menu will appear that will allow you to select your location. These are all of the places that the computer-based General Test is located.

The next page offers another drop-down menu that will allow you to refine your test location - in the US this is by state. Select the appropriate option and click "Next."

Select the "Locate a Test Site" Link to find the most convenient location for you to take the test. You will again be asked to select which test you are taking via a drop-down menu. Select and hit "Next."

Choose the test location that works the best for you. On the left of each Test Ccenter Description are links for driving directions and to schedule an appointment. Choose "Schedule Appointment."

This will bring you to a page with a lot of important information about taking the test. Read carefully and at the bottom of the page select teh "Next" button. This will take you to Privacy Policy page, you should read that, select "I Agree," and hit the "Next" Button.

You will then have an option to find a test opening on a specific day or in any given 3-month period. Highlight the 3-month option just in case, and hit the "Go" button.

The Underlined dates have openings, choose the one that is the best for you. To the right a small box will appear with available time slots, select one.

The rest is easy. Fill out your personal information and hit next to advance to the Credit Card payment options. Good Luck.
