How to make Dandelion Wine, "Cordial"

Recipe for making wine from dandelions.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 quarts of Dandelion flowers
  • 3 oranges
  • 4 lbs. of sugar
  • 3 lemons
  • 1 oz. of yeast
  • cheese cloth
  • cock pot
  • large kettle
  • filtering paper
  • bottle or container to store wine
  1. Step 1

    Pick the dandelion blooms early in the morning and clean them well. Be fussy about the cleaning.

  2. Step 2

    Place in a large crock and pour hot water over them until they are completely covered.

  3. Step 3

    Cover croc with cheese cloth for 3 days stirring only twice per day.

  4. Step 4

    Remove flowers and pour remaining liquid into a large kettle. To it you add the 3 oranges finely chopped, 3 finely chopped lemons and the 4lbs. sugar and one ounce of yeast.

  5. Step 5

    Stir well and boil for 330 minutes. Leave to ferment for three weeks.

  6. Step 6

    Once fermentation time is up pour wine through filtering paper into bottles. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Well prepared flowers are key to better tasting wine.
  • Also do not disturb the crock other than to stir twice per day.
  • Early morning flowers are usually fresher blooms.
  • Must have patience.
  • This is real wine with alcohol content and so should not be consumed by anyone under 21 years of age.
  • Check local laws on making alcohol at home.
