on 1/6/2008 Medications are not always the answer. My poor parents have been put on a barrage of drugs over the years, so that some of them are prescribed to "correct" the side effects of the first ones! They obediently take what their trusty md prescribes, only to find out later - OOPS! - that drug is bad for us! We have to wait for "extensive medical research" to catch up, I guess? Keep your mind open as you "practice" medicine. Medication should be the last resort, not the first. Nourishing Traditions might be a good read for all of us.

on 12/30/2007 this reply is for 'Jane'. thanks for leaving the comment. I do not agree on saturated fats being good. Diets high in saturated fat are correlated with high incidence of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. coconut oil has medium-chain fatty acids that may increase the HDL / GOOD cholesterol however, whether the benefit of increasing the good cholesterol is higher than the risks of increasing the bad cholesterol remains to be seen. The American Heart Association recommends reduced consumption of saturated fats, including those found in coconut oil (until research confirms otherwise). Please, also see my other article titled 'How to increase good cholesterol

on 12/29/2007 Sorry, you're wrong! Saturated fats being bad is OLD news, truth is coconut oil is one of the greatest things for you, and margarine is a no-no. Check out Nourishing Traditions, you'll be enlightened, and possibly have health improvement!

on 11/14/2007 sir, what you know is based on your own small experiments with food and diet, what i have written is a direct outcome of extensive medical research. if your cholesterol numbers are out of wack then you wont benifit from 'dietry modifications' you probably need multiple cholestrol lowering medications. please see your physician for that. refrence to my articles is: http://www.uptodate.com/

on 11/14/2007 this information is invalid. nothing listed here has been proven to decrease bad cholesterol let alone increase the good. eating fresh vegetables and fruits without additives or cooking them in oils of any type is the way to decrease. i know this because i have inheritedly high cholesterol and had to remove everything that is on your list. the only thing on your list that is legit is the avocados. everything else increases the cholesterol (especially cereals, you do know what is in cereals don't you?) also eating cereals with milk is a defeatist proceedure, it doesn't help the numbers. MILK is high in cholesterol making agents. most of the other things on your list are high in triglycerides which is also bad for the arteries. you want to decrease the goop in the blood eat fresh FRUITS and VEGETABLES! steam them, eat them raw. cut out all dairy and FATS!
