YARD SALE. YARD SALE.

Rate: (7 Ratings)

Yard sales can be a hassle and boring, but they don't have to be. Just make a fun week-end out of it. There are lot's of ways to do that, here are just a few ideas.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Items you no longer need or want.
  • A yard or spot you can set up a yard sale.
  • Tables and a rack or two.
  • Ice water, lemonade, kool-aid or etc.
  • A money box with lots of change.
  • Bags.
  • Yard games.
Step1
Write YARD SALE on box. when you go through things around the house or garage and find things you no longer want or need, just place them in a box and label it, YARD SALE.
Step2
Yard sale boxes after a year. Do this all year. You'll be surprised at how much you will accumulate in a year. About two months before the yard sale, start making plans on which family and friends you want to invite and what other things you will be doing during the yard sale.
Step3
Make your own signs. Make signs ahead of time, Plan to have the kids a place to have the lemonade table.
Step4
Have lots of change. Have a money box ready with lots of change in it. Also have plenty of paper or plastic bags for the customers to put their things in.
Step5
A stand or table. Make a kool-ade stand or have a table to set up just for the lemonade, kool-ade, ice water, etc. Let the kids handle the making and sales of the drinks. Since its a yard sale you can make the price of the lemonade or etc. cheaper. Example, if you would usually sell it for 25 cents, make the price 18 cents or etc. customers will probably give 25 or more cents per paper cup anyway.
Step6
Price tags. When your ready to start going through the boxes, have a couple family members or friends over to help with pricing the items. You will probably want to hang on to some items because after a year of being out of sight, it just might look good to you again, but this will be defeating the purpose, (TO GET RID OF THINGS).
Step7
Yard sale items. A few days before the sale start putting out your yard sale signs. The day before get your tables set up (don't put yard sale items on the tables until morning) unless your comfortable with the area you live in and the weather.
Step8
Yard games. Have a couple yard games for you and your company to play during the slow moments of the sale, like horseshoes, ping pong, etc. and now your ready for a great couple of days.

Tips & Warnings

  • On the second or third day of the sale, make a half off sign.
  • After the sale pack up what items that didn't sell and save to add to next years yard sale.
  • Most important of all, HAVE FUN!!!
  • Make sure there are no yard games that can hurt customers, like volley ball, football etc.

on 5/2/2008 I like the idea of playing games during the yard sale. Maybe my 17 yr old son and friends would stick around and help if they can set up and play a game of horse shoes.
