Have you always wanted to write a novel, but you've continued to put it off for whatever reason? On November 1st, you can join millions of writers (and wannabe writers) all over the world who share your dream. November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Story Idea
  • Informal Outline of Novel
  • Notepad
  • Pencil or Pen

Step1
Sign up at www.nanowrimo.org. To formally participate, you'll need to register at the website.
Step2
Participate in writing forums. Nanowrimo offers forums that will encourage writers to reach their goals. Forums also offer competitions that are meant for the same purpose-reaching 50,000 words.
Step3
Pair with a writing buddy. On the site, there is an area for finding an online writing buddy or an offline buddy in your area.
Step4
Join a group. Several people in your city will be participating in NaNoWriMo. Some may even live on your block. Groups vary in how they are organized. There are groups that come together solely for writing, and then there are those that are a combination of writing and social gathering. Other groups are more into socializing. If possible, find out before you attend so you're not in a gathering that doesn't match your goals.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have fun with this project. No one will grade you. Go for it!
  • Try not to get behind in your daily word count. It's time consuming catching up.
