How to Edit Photos With Vista or XP

The latest version of XP and Windows Vista contains an integrated photo editor. Learn how to use this tool with ease.

  • windows vista (or xp)
  • photo file
  • color printer
  • Photo paper

Instructions

      Click Start > Pictures

    • 2

      At the upper left, in the menu bar, Click View repeatedly or use the drop-down-view-slider to set the thumbnail-size

      Find the photo-file you want

    • 4

      Right click the file and select preview (photo-gallery opens)

      Click FIX

      Use the tools made available to adjust he image to your preference.
      Crop will be the 1st one to try.
      Pick your paper shape(size) and move/expand the box to meet your need.

      For this HOWTO, lets pick 4x6 photo.
      Drag and stretch the frame to your preference. Notice the aspect ratio stays constant.
      Click Print (vista print opens)

      From Vista-Print, you can set the paper size and printer preferences.
      For a borderless print, click the fill option in this screen.
      Click Print.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use large image files, they print nicer and give you room to crop

  • Play with the custom shape under crop

  • Always save with a new file name (this way you can go back to the original photo if you like)

  • Vista photo editor auto saves when you exit, so save a copy before exiting the photo-editor.
