Food poisoning can be life-threatening if not recognised early and treated properly. This article will teach you how to see tell-tale signs and symptoms of food poisoning caused by common bacteria like Escherichia coli, Shigella, Salmonella, and campylobacter.

  1. Step 1

    Food poisoning signs and symptoms can present in many different ways depending on the source of the cause and by the various bacteria.
    However, the common complaints that could inform the doctor that this could be food poisoning are cramps, vomiting, diarrhea and dizziness.

  2. Step 2

    Sometimes other symptoms can also accompany the common complaints like short of breath, problems with swallowing, fatigue, muscle weakness, or paralysis (particularly after eating mushrooms).

  3. Step 3

    A fever over 100 degree Fahrenheit is an ominous sign especially when there is associated severe vomit ting, diarrhea for more than 24 hours.

  4. Step 4

    Others signs an d symptoms to be aware of is persistent abdominal pain and cramps along with bloody diarrhea.

  5. Step 5

    Food poison patients always complain of extreme thirst and dehydration, dry mouth, and decreased urine output. A method to recognize dehydration is to pinch the back of the hand and the skin remains pinched.

  • For the young and the elderly or people with chronic health illness or immunocompromised patients, food poisoning can become a very serious life-threatening condition and it is advised to always contact or see the doctor if you suspect a case of food poisoning.
  • Many or most cases of food poisoning is usually caused by improper food handling and undercooked or under prepared foods. Also unhygienic preparation, storage, and cooking of foods can contribute to the contamination in many cases. of
