How to Be a Driver for Oversize Loads

When considering a position as an oversize load driver, the best idea is to invest in some basic truck driver training first. Each company will have their own specific requirements for an oversize load driver, but there are some general guidelines that you can expect to meet.

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Prospective heavy load driver must be 21 years of age. Must have no felony convictions. Most companies require a drug test. Applicant must not have a current clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.
Step2
Applicant must have Commercial Driver's License.
Step3
A complete physical examination is required every two years, in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation. Vision must be a minimum of 20/40 in each eye (corrective lenses are fine), and have a 70 degree field of vision in each eye. Hearing aids are allowed.
Step4
A driver must execute and pass a driver's road test, with awarded certificate as proof.
