Practice magic from home. Create your own personal altar for ritual and meditation. All it takes is a few minutes and a few simple tools.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat Surface
  • Candle
  • Scarf
  • Incense and Burner
  • Lighter or Matches
  • Water
  • Sand or Dirt
  • Positive Intent
  1. Step 1

Clear a flat surface and lay scarf on top. You may face any direction you like, but many people start facing the east as that is the direction the sun comes up.

  2. Step 2

Place incense at East for Air. Water in the West. Sand or Dirt in the North for Earth. Candle in the South for Fire.

  3. Step 3

    Light candle and incense.

  4. Step 4

Imagine yourself in the center of a circle. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, this will help to ground you.

  5. Step 5

When you are calm and relaxed, envision a white light enveloping you from all directions. You have now created your own personal sacred altar.

Tips & Warnings
  • This list is by no means complete. You may add other objects to your altar at any time. Some suggestions include, holy water, essential oil(s), leaves, acorns, coins, crystals and stones, bells, statues/figurines to represent male or female entities, pendulum(s), crystal ball, pentagram(s) or whatever else you want.
  • You do not need to set up your altar inside. If you have property, naturally you may create an outdoor altar as well. In fact, many pagan books will recommend having an outdoor altar, especially if you are into nature based living.
  • Remember, this is your altar, and you are free to do with it whatever you want. Spirit doesn't recognise color, sexual preference, political preference or even religious preference, so if you go into it with clear intent, you will have a sacred place to worship from home.
  • You do not need to tell anyone you have an altar, it is your business and you should never feel guilty about recognising spirit in your own way.
