I've covered how to apply an ankle lock. Now I will cover how to defend against it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A soft mat
  • Someone willing to let you practice on them.
  1. Step 1

Start with you and your opponent lying on the ground facing one another. Allow them to get you into position for an ankle lock (your foot under their underarm) and begin the apply the move.

  2. Step 2

Once they have hold of your foot and you can see where this is heading, roll. I think it is best to roll towards the direction of your free leg. Either way, roll and do it quickly.

  3. Step 3

Once you have rolled, take your free leg and place it on the butt of your opponent and push. At the same time you are pushing, pull your leg free from their grasp.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are able to recover quickly, you can stand up and find yourself standing in their guard.
