Create a Raw Food Diet

With so many options, making your own raw food diet can seem complicated. Where do you start with raw foods, anyway? As you incorporate more and more raw foods and raw superfoods into your meals, you'll feel healthier and have more energy. Eating a good diet with plenty of raw enzymes is surprisingly simple. Here is how to create a raw food diet and meal plan.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Raw Vegetables
  • Raw Fruit
  • Raw Nuts
  • Raw Fish & Meat
  • Raw Milk
  • Fresh Organic Eggs
  • Salad Bowl
  • Blender

    Raw Food Diet

  1. Step 1
    Diet Plan
    Diet Plan

Plan your raw food diet. Read about natural foods and raw food recipes online and make your own menu plan. Decide what you will eat each day of the week as you transition to a raw food diet.

  2. Step 2
    Tomatoes
    Tomatoes

Find sources for organic fruits and vegetables for your new raw diet. Look for produce grown as locally to you as possible for optimum freshness. Frequent farmer's markets in your area, and consider growing some of your own veggies -- such as tomatoes -- for your salads.

  3. Step 3
    Sushi!
    Sushi!

Make sure your raw food diet is well-balanced. Raw food does not equal vegetarianism or eating vegan; raw foods include sushi and animal products such as milk, eggs, cheese, and well-prepared raw beef.

  4. Step 4
    Raw Milk
    Raw Milk

Add raw dairy products to your daily foods. Find a local source of clean, fresh raw milk through the Real Milk Foundation or the Weston A. Price Foundation. Use raw cream to make your own raw butter, and make raw yogurt and kefir from your raw milk.

  5. Step 5
    Sauerkraut
    Sauerkraut

Make (or find a source for) raw, fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut. Prperly fermented vegetables actually have an increased nutrition density thanks to the work of lactic fermentation.

  6. Step 6

Read books about raw food diets and raw food recipes. Keep your raw food diet exciting with new foods and new menus. For ideas, see Resources, below.

Tips & Warnings
  • Join the raw food lifestyle and raw food special interest groups on Facebook for support, ideas and tips.
  • Learn to juice fruits and vegetables for a highly nutritious raw food superfood.
  • Be sure that any meat eaten raw is produced and butchered under organic standards and clean conditions. Never eat raw meat that could be in any way tainted.

on 2/5/2009 I've been eating a raw diet for several months now, and I'd advise anyone to do what JohanM said, start with a few raw meals here or there, or add a salad or such to any meal. Then over a few weeks or months time, increase one raw meal or snack a day. Doing this gradually will aid your body in cleansing itself slowly also, especially if you're trying to get off cigarettes, soda, caffeine, etc. The slower you incorporate raw into your current diet, the less side affects (in my experience). I blog a lot about raw foods and been studying it for some time also.

Have fun!

on 6/3/2008 I did not know about the increased nutrition. I have to get back to eating more "raw". In summer it is easier. Thanks for the post.

on 12/19/2007 Great article! I've heard about raw food diets and their benefits, but I didn't think I could do it, but now that you mentioned I can still drink milk....I might have to give this a try! :)
